Project Mariner
Project Mariner was an experimental research prototype by Google DeepMind that let Gemini 2.0/2.5 multimodal models control a Chrome browser to complete multi-step tasks across web pages using screenshots and DOM actions. Initially previewed in December 2024 and tested with Google AI Ultra subscribers, it was discontinued on 4 May 2026 as Google consolidated browser automation into Gemini Agent Mode and Google Antigravity.
